After exhausting myself yesterday i was ready for my luck to return. and it sure did!
I got to class very early after leaving an hour and a half before class just-in-case i got lost. but low and behold, i found it, and easily too!
i made a pal while first getting there which was nice. >Hes some dude from berkeley with the same major as myself. But, i think thats about all we have in common.
However, in my class i met several other cool cats who i get along with very well. theyre all super friendly and we're all pretty much at the same level in german so we help eachother out a lot.
what's exciting also is that i met a girl from barcelona who also plays the oboe!
i'm not leaving this country until i play with somone else and we've both set out on a quest to find an orchestra so she'll also help me out with that one.
My first day of intensive german was fun- the dozent is very helpful and really forces us to think in german. he wont let us speak a lick of english so if we don't know what a word is we have to walk around in circles describing what we want to say. while this takes a long time and can be very difficult, it proves to be quite effective in forcing us to learn german which is the ultimate goal. i mean, i'm not living in germany to practice english.
and i'm glad to say my dorm cheered up a bit. i met a brazilian dude who is very friendly and kind of told me how the dorm works (i.e. the kitchen, the bathrooms, etc). It's cool to have a go-to living right across from me.
but other than him and maybe one other, people in the dorm tend to keep to themselves. i expect to make most of my friends in class and in other organizations.
i also bought healthy food! woot!
but because i don't have any kitchenware i'm still living off bread, soy yogurt and fruit.
but i'm getting that today :)
also, my room is way less of a dungeon now that i have sheets, have unpacked and added colorful curtains.
tonight my language class is meeting at a biergarten so we can get to know eachother more.
viel Spaß!
and i just emailed someone about internet, so hopefully that gets me hooked up and i can show you what i've been talking about.
bis später!
